Vineyard Creek Reserve

Vineyard Creek Reserve, 52 Rock Farm Ave, Telopea

Walk: Distance 2.5km, Duration 2 hr return

Facilities: Nil

Vegetation: Coastal Enriched Sydney Sandstone Moist Forest, Coastal Sydney Sandstone Gallery Rainforest, Coastal Shale-Sandstone Forest and Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest.

History: The Darug Burramatta clan no doubt were drawn to this natural Amphitheatre and the shelter and abundant resources on offer. In turn, European settlers highly regarded the higher tracts of Vineyard Creek catchment known as the ‘Bird Sanctuary’ for its beautiful, tranquil and pristine environment and popular childrens’ swimming holes. James Bell ran a diary on the north side off kissing Point Road from the late 1800s and it extended up the hill to the so-called Bird Sanctuary. Lower down, Phillip Schaeffer’s property the ‘The Vineyard’ contained 900 grape vines before they were impacted by disease and management issues.Flyer can be downloaded by clicking Vineyard Creek
